Whitehorse Falls is a 14-foot plunge waterfall on the Clearwater River in the Umpqua National Forest of Douglas County, Oregon. The water funnels through a narrow rock trough and drops in one step into a wide pool, right beside the parking area of a small campground off Highway 138.
The falls
The Clearwater River runs through a slot in rhyolite bedrock and crashes over a wall about 10 feet wide into a large pool, dropping 14 feet in a single plunge, while agency brochures list the height as 15 feet. The river is fed by springs, and because it is part of the North Umpqua hydroelectric system, the flow stays steady all year rather than rising and falling with the seasons.
Getting there
Whitehorse Falls Campground is about 66 miles east of Roseburg on Highway 138; turn in at the campground sign. The viewing platform sits right at the day-use parking area, so the falls are seen without a hike. The site has a vault toilet but no drinking water, and there is no cell coverage. Campground listings disagree on its 2026 status: one shows it open for the season, while another lists it as temporarily closed as of September 24, 2026, so check with Umpqua National Forest before driving out.
When to go
With spring-fed, regulated flow, the waterfall remains worth visiting in any month.

The platform overlooks both the falls and the river below. The campground next to it has five sites with picnic tables and fire rings, paid on site through Scan & Pay, and takes trailers up to 25 feet. Dogs must be kept on a leash. Bring water, since none is available.
