Where the waterfalls are
Ransom County holds the state's only listing, Mineral Springs Falls, in the Sheyenne River State Forest about a mile southeast of Fort Ransom. An underground spring feeds the stream that drops into the Sheyenne River valley there.
Waterfalls worth the trip
- Mineral Springs Falls, 15 feet, is the only known natural waterfall in the state. Reaching it is a moderate, roughly 2.4-mile round trip with about 350 feet of climb, on a natural-surface trail with exposed roots; it is not wheelchair accessible.
Access and safety
No fee is charged, and parking is informal, in small pull-offs near the trailhead; dogs and swimming are not allowed at the falls. Rocks near the water are slippery, cell service is limited along the trail, and the path can turn muddy after rain.
