Auger Falls is a roughly 20-foot cascade on the Sacandaga River in Hamilton County, New York, inside the Siamese Ponds Wilderness.
The falls
A lidar-based estimate on the World Waterfall Database puts the main drop at about 20 feet, with downstream cascades that may add roughly 15 more; the waterfall's status there is listed as unconfirmed. The river drops through a natural boulder-filled cascade and rapids in a narrow gorge. Northern New York Waterfalls describes the wider cascade reach, measured farther downstream, as 100 feet.
Getting there
New York's Department of Environmental Conservation maintains the Auger Falls Trail in the Siamese Ponds Wilderness: 0.4 mile from the trailhead to the riverbank and the falls, descending 70 feet in the first quarter mile. Parking is on Routes 8/30 at the boundary with the Jessup River Wild Forest, with room for about 75 vehicles. A separate route description instead gives a 1.25-mile loop from Route 30 outside Speculator to the same falls. No day-use fee or permit applies to the DEC trail.

No official best-flow months or freeze schedule have been published; trail notices should be checked before travel.

The gorge has steep, slippery rock next to rushing water, and a state scenic-byway guide warns visitors to stay back from the rim. On July 1, 2026, forest rangers used a rope system to rescue a hiker who had fallen into the rapids at the base and become stranded on a rock.
