Bird Woman Falls is a 675-foot horsetail waterfall in Glacier National Park, Montana, spilling from a hanging valley between Mount Oberlin and Mount Cannon on the west side of Logan Pass. Its view from Going-to-the-Sun Road makes it one of the most easily seen waterfalls in the park.
The falls
Snowfields on the north and west flanks of Mount Oberlin feed the creek, which slides over the lip of its hanging valley in a single broad veil and drops into a tributary of Logan Creek. A lidar measurement puts the drop at 675 feet; the roadside overlook sign reads 492 feet, and older surveys listed 960 feet with a tallest drop of 640. A smaller fall higher in the valley is counted separately.
Getting there
The falls are seen from about 2 miles across the valley. The signed Bird Woman Falls Overlook, with a small parking area, is on Going-to-the-Sun Road about 27 miles from West Glacier on the climb toward Logan Pass, and several other turnouts nearby also face the falls. No trail leads to them; getting closer means a long bushwhack.
Vehicles longer than 21 feet or wider than 8 feet are not allowed between Avalanche Creek and Rising Sun, and rock overhangs on the west side can be a problem for vehicles taller than 10 feet. In 2026 the park shuttle ran July 1 to September 7 with $1 tickets through Recreation.gov, though it does not stop at the overlook. Summer admission to Glacier is $35 per vehicle for seven days, plus $100 per person for non-US residents aged 16 and older unless they hold an Annual or America the Beautiful Pass.
When to go
The upper road usually opens fully in late June or early July and stays open until the third Monday of October; Logan Pass opening dates have ranged from mid-June to mid-July depending on snow. Flow is strongest in late spring and early summer, so the weeks just after the road opens are the best time. By autumn the falls thin to a modest ribbon and in dry years nearly stop.

The overlook parking is small and fills by afternoon in summer; plan to arrive before 8 am. Views are from the roadside only.
