Blue Hen Falls is a 12-foot waterfall in Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Summit County, Ohio, reached by a short hike on the Buckeye Trail.
The falls
A lidar estimate from the World Waterfall Database sets the height at about 12 feet, a figure the site has not confirmed in person; the National Park Service publishes 15 feet. It is a single plunge, and no stream name is on record for it.
Getting there
Park at the Boston Mill Visitor Center or the Boston Trailhead and follow the Buckeye Trail; the round trip is 3 miles with 580 feet of climb. The route crosses Boston Mills Road, and an old roadside parking area near the falls is no longer the trailhead. Cuyahoga Valley National Park charges no entrance fee.
When to go
The falls responds to rainfall, and the trail can turn muddy. No potable water is available at the falls.
On site
The trail is steep and rocky; use caution at the road crossing and near drop-offs. Rock and ice climbing are prohibited at Blue Hen Falls. As of a check in September 2026, the falls was not on the park's list of closures.
