Glen Falls

Glen Falls is a 20-foot plunge waterfall on Kiskatom Brook at Round Top, in the town of Cairo in the Catskills of Greene County, New York. It sits in a small gorge on the grounds of Glen Falls House, a Catskills inn, facing the narrower Bridal Veil Falls across the same ravine.

The falls

Lidar data puts the single drop at about 20 feet; earlier surveys listed 25 feet. The falls have a wide, rounded profile, with water falling free off an overhanging ledge into a shallow pool. Bridal Veil Falls, on a smaller unnamed stream directly opposite, is often mixed up with it.

Getting there

The falls are on private land owned by Glen Falls House at 230 Winter Clove Road in Round Top. The trails past the falls are open to the public, and there is no admission fee. Park in the lot across the road from the inn, or at the inn itself if using its services. The walk length isn't documented.

When to go

The flow is moderate and drops off by late summer, when Glen Falls dries up before its neighbor. Visits are limited to daylight hours.

An observation platform overlooks the gorge. The steeper routes down into the gorge need a rope to descend, and foliage can block the view.

History and name

Glen Falls House opened in 1881 as a Catskills boarding house; the farmhouse became a hotel in the 1940s.
