Hidden Falls is a 40-foot, two-drop waterfall on the Temperance River in Temperance River State Park, Cook County, Minnesota, where the river cuts through a gorge on its way to Lake Superior.
The falls
Lidar data show two back-to-back plunges of about 20 feet each, for a total of 40 feet; the feature is unconfirmed and has not been surveyed in person. The falls sit in the Temperance River Gorge, cut through bedrock estimated at 1.1 billion years old.
Getting there
Minnesota DNR manages Temperance River State Park and routes visitors from a parking lot on the northeast side of the river, off Highway 61, along a paved trail to a viewing deck above Hidden Falls. Beyond the deck, the Temperance River Gorge Trail continues 0.25 mile one way over hilly bare rock, packed dirt and stairs. A state park vehicle permit costs $7 a day or $35 for 12 months in 2026, and the DNR advises checking the park's visitor alerts before a trip; no closure specific to the falls was in effect as of September 25, 2026.

The developed view is from the deck at the end of the paved trail. Dogs must be attended and kept on a six-foot leash, and are excluded from buildings and beaches. Swimming rules, access beyond the overlook, and any accident history for Hidden Falls are not documented.
History and name
Temperance River State Park was established in 1957. The river's name is said to be ironic: its strong current has kept a debris bar from forming at its mouth.
