Horsetail Falls is an unconfirmed waterfall on a tributary of McGee Creek in Mono County, California, about 10.9 miles from Mammoth Lakes, at roughly 8,951 feet in elevation. A lidar estimate puts the drop at about 100 feet, possibly less.
The falls
The World Waterfall Database places the fall on an unnamed, partly spring-fed tributary of McGee Creek and marks it unconfirmed. The lidar estimate is a maximum rather than a field measurement; no in-person survey has confirmed a figure. Dense brush obscures part of the fall from the trail on the valley floor. It is a separate feature from the higher, 325-foot Horsetail Falls on Rush Creek and the 90-foot waterfall on Horse Creek nearby.
Getting there
The Inyo National Forest manages the area; the McGee Pass trail (JM05) is the entry route, under a wilderness quota of 15 people. A trailhead, distance and elevation gain specific to the falls are not documented.
