Moss Glen Falls is a 68-foot horsetail waterfall on Deer Hollow Brook in Granville Gulf State Reservation, Addison County, Vermont, a short walk from the parking area beside VT Route 100. It spreads into a broad, symmetrical fan at the floor of the gulf, where Deer Hollow Brook meets Alder Meadow Brook.
The falls
The brook squeezes through a narrow notch in the bedrock, where the upper cascade sits back in a tight gully, then fans out into a veil about 40 to 45 feet tall; that lower veil is what most visitors see. The World Waterfall Database, which surveyed the falls in person, puts the full height at 68 feet in a single drop, 20 to 35 feet wide. Earlier surveys showed 64 feet, and an alternate figure gives 80 feet.
Getting there
The parking pull-off is on the west side of Route 100, 2.7 miles north of Granville. The route is a 0.2-mile round trip on gravel, packed earth and boardwalk to a viewing platform, with no fee and leashed dogs allowed. The route crosses a footbridge that was damaged in the July 2023 flood and stayed closed; the state hoped to open a replacement by summer 2026, and the replacement bridge was rebid in June 2026. While the bridge is out, visitors have been walking along the highway, where a blind corner hides them from traffic, or down a slippery foot path.
When to go
The falls run all year, averaging about 15 cubic feet per second for seven months and 3 for the other five, though dry summers cut the flow sharply.

The boardwalk passes Little Moss Glen Falls on its way to a fenced viewing area with an interpretive sign. Signs at the falls warn that they have been the site of numerous injuries and fatalities. The bedrock is very slick, and the climb above the falls is dangerous; stay on the path.
History and name
Governor Redfield Proctor gave the original 900 acres of the reservation, including the falls, to the state in 1928 on the understanding that the land be protected for public enjoyment. Later purchases through 1952 brought it to 1,171 acres along the Route 100 corridor, which is also used for hunting and wildlife viewing.
