Oberlin Falls is a 185-foot horsetail waterfall on Logan Creek in Glacier National Park, Montana, just west of Logan Pass in Flathead County. It sits at about 6,475 feet near Mount Oberlin and is best seen from the first stretch of the Highline Trail.
The falls
The waterfall drops as a horsetail measuring about 185 feet based on lidar data. Earlier surveys listed 250 feet, while other regional accounts report 200 feet. Hikers on the Highline Trail look across at both Upper and Lower Oberlin Falls as Logan Creek heads down toward Lake McDonald.
Getting there
The usual viewpoint is on the Highline Trail, which starts at the Logan Pass Visitor Center. The walk out to the Oberlin Falls lookout and back covers 2.1 miles with 367 feet of gain, rated easy and taking about an hour. The cascade is also visible from a roadside outlook on Going-to-the-Sun Road. No route to the base is documented.
In 2026 Glacier requires no vehicle reservations. Logan Pass parking is first come, first served and limited to three hours at any hour of the day, with a free timestamped permit from the kiosk. A ticketed park shuttle ran July 1 to September 7, 2026, at $1 per ticket through Recreation.gov. Vehicles longer than 21 feet, wider than 8 feet or taller than 10 feet are not allowed between Avalanche Creek and Rising Sun. Summer admission is $35 per vehicle for seven days, plus $100 per person for non-US residents aged 16 and older unless they hold an Annual or America the Beautiful Pass.

The Highline Trail follows narrow cliff ledges along the Garden Wall, with drops of more than 100 feet beside the path and railings on the most exposed part. Loose rock creates hazards, especially after rain, and grizzly bears inhabit the area, particularly in late summer and early fall. Dogs are not allowed on Glacier's trails. Park historical records note a visitor falling over the cliff at Oberlin Falls in the 1970s.
