Cherokee Shoals is a stretch of rapids in Elbert County, Georgia, in the Piedmont region. It lies about 4.6 miles northwest of Calhoun Falls and roughly 42.1 miles east of Athens as the crow flies.
The Piedmont is rolling upland between the Appalachians and the coastal plain, with mixed oak-pine forest, farmland and expanding cities. Waterfalls mark the fall line and the rocky beds of rivers crossing hard crystalline rock.
It is the only recorded rapid in Elbert County. Lees Shoals, is about 16.4 miles away across the state line in South Carolina. Cunningham Shoals, is about 20.7 miles away. Witcher Shoals, is about 21 miles away.
