Shanks Ripple is a stretch of rapids in Hawkins County, Tennessee, in the Ridge and Valley region. It lies about 5.8 miles southwest of Rogersville and roughly 32.3 miles west of Kingsport as the crow flies.
The Ridge and Valley is a corridor of long, parallel forested ridges and farmed limestone valleys running the length of the Appalachians. Waterfalls occur where streams cut through resistant sandstone on the ridges.
