Alger Falls is a 25-foot cascade on Alger Creek in Alger County, Michigan, tumbling beside the junction of M-28 and M-94 just south of Munising. It is a roadside stop: the falls can be seen from the highway.
The falls
Alger Creek steps down a run of small ledges, cascading over many small levels before reaching the bottom. A lidar estimate puts the drop at about 25 feet; older surveys listed 20 feet, and the city's recreation plan puts it at about 30.
Getting there
The falls sit at the M-28/M-94 junction, about a mile south of Munising on the east side of M-28, with a sign along the highway. There are no safe parking options at the site.
When to go
Flow depends on snowmelt and rain. The falls are worth a quick look when they have water, and flow gets thin by midsummer. Later in the day is the recommended time for summer photographs.
