Basin Falls is a 20-foot segmented waterfall on Basin Falls Brook in Oxford County, Maine, about two miles west of Buckfield village. It was a local beauty spot as early as the 1830s, but whether the public may visit it today is unclear.
The falls
Lidar measurements indicate a two-tier steep cascade with a combined drop of about 20 feet, the lower tier splitting into two segments; the falls are still unconfirmed, awaiting an in-person survey. The Maine Forest Service map for Buckfield labels both the brook and the falls.
Getting there
The falls appear to be on private land. A visitor in 2003 found what looked like private property; later notes from 2017 suggested visitors might be welcome, and expected access to be from Paris Hill Road, off North Buckfield Road. No landowner, trail or parking area is documented, so ask permission before going.
