Cane Creek Cascades is a 30-foot block waterfall on Cane Creek in Fall Creek Falls State Park, Van Buren County, Tennessee, upstream of the larger, separate Cane Creek Falls.
The falls
Cane Creek spills over a broad ledge, wider than it is tall, near the Betty Dunn Nature Center. A lidar survey now measures the drop at just 30 feet; older measurements had it at about 45 feet. It sits upstream of Cane Creek Falls, a taller, distinct waterfall on the same creek.
Getting there
Fall Creek Falls State Park, managed by Tennessee State Parks, is a very short, easy walk from the Betty Dunn Nature Center, reached via TN-284 from TN-30. The park stays open 24 hours, though day-use areas close at sunset and the falls road is locked after dark. Fees and permits are not documented.
When to go
Visitors reported strong flow after rain in May 2024 and very little flow in autumn.
On site
A footbridge near the nature center offers overhead views of the cascades; the downstream Cane Creek Falls overlook is a separate viewpoint. Pets must be restrained, and swimming is allowed only in designated areas. The nature center and some overlooks are wheelchair accessible, though that does not extend to the cascades themselves.
History and name
The suspension bridge over Cane Creek near the nature center was replaced in a project completed in January 2021.
