Hidden Falls is a 185-foot tiered cascade on Cascade Creek in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming, where the creek tumbles out of Cascade Canyon shortly before it reaches Jenny Lake. It is a short walk from the lake's west shore.
The falls
The falls are listed as 185 feet of steep tiered cascades; earlier inventories gave 200 feet, while some sources round to 100 feet. Cascade Creek starts at Lake Solitude and runs about 8 miles down Cascade Canyon, fed by snowmelt.
Getting there
Take the Teton Park Road to the South Jenny Lake turnoff. From there, either ride the Jenny Lake Boating shuttle across the lake or hike around the south shore. From the west boat dock the walk is 1 mile round trip with about 300 feet of gain, rated easy; the loop around the lake is 4.9 miles round trip with 620 feet of gain, rated moderate. The trail is dirt with rock steps, roots and rocks, and a short spur leads off the main trail to the viewing area.
In 2026 the shuttle costs $20 round trip for adults ($15 one way), $15 for children 2 to 12 and $18 for seniors. Tickets are sold at the East Boat Dock, no reservations are taken, and boats run every 10 to 15 minutes. Park admission is $35 per vehicle for seven days, plus $100 per person for non-US residents aged 16 and older unless they hold an annual pass. Entrances are cashless.
When to go
The shuttle runs from May 15 to September 30, with the longest hours (7 a.m. to 7 p.m.) from June 6 to September 7. Snow often lingers on the trail in spring and makes some spots slick. The Jenny Lake lot fills in midsummer; arriving before 9 a.m. helps.
On site
The falls are seen from a terraced overlook with informal seating and a boulder wall along its edge. Pets are not allowed on the trail. In October 2018 a visitor scrambling on wet rocks above the viewing area fell 20 to 30 feet into Cascade Creek and had to be rescued by helicopter short-haul; stay on the overlook. Inspiration Point is another 0.5 mile up the trail.
History and name
The Jenny Lake Renewal Project, finished in 2019 with $14.5 million from the Grand Teton National Park Foundation and more than $6 million in federal funds, rebuilt the trails and the Hidden Falls viewing area. In July 2018 the park closed the area for a month over a cracking rock buttress above the overlook; the buttress fell that autumn, and the debris stopped about 50 yards short of the overlook.
