The falls
Cascade Brook drops through Liberty Gorge in a series of cascades along the loop past the Flume. A page update lists the total height at 40 feet, down from the 60 feet recorded earlier. New England Waterfalls, which calls the same cascade Liberty Cascade, gives its height as 70 feet.
Getting there
Reaching the cascades means walking the full 2-mile Flume Gorge loop, which includes hills and stairs. Tickets are $18 online or $21 at the gate for ages 13 and up, $16 online or $19 at the gate for ages 6 to 12, and free for younger children.
When to go
The gorge is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from September 8 to October 12, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from October 13 to 25, before closing for the season. Spring, or a recent rain, is the recommended time to see the cascades at their fullest.

Restrooms are available, pets are not allowed, and the boardwalks through the gorge are removed for winter.
History and name
The cascades were once called Langton's Cascades, after a nineteenth-century guest at the Flume House, and Tawadina, a name tied to a 1928 rediscovery.
