Scout Falls is a 75-foot waterfall on South Fork American Fork Canyon Creek in Utah County, Utah, reached from the U.S. Forest Service's Timpooneke Trailhead on the Alpine Scenic Loop.
The falls
The waterfall is classified as segmented horsetails, with a current height of 75 feet. Older records placed the height at just 30 feet.
Getting there
The route is a 3.0-mile round trip with 825 feet of elevation gain on a maintained dirt-and-rock trail, rated moderate. In 2026, a printed timed-entry ticket, one per private vehicle, is required on Saturdays, Sundays, July 24 and Labor Day between midnight and noon, and a valid recreation pass — an America the Beautiful pass or a Uinta-Wasatch-Cache annual pass — must be displayed every day. UDOT reopened State Route 92 and the Alpine Loop for the season on May 22, 2026.
When to go
Late spring, summer and fall are the recommended season. The Alpine Loop closes each winter between Pine Hollow and Aspen Grove, and reopening depends on snow conditions and maintenance resources.

The trail system is open to hikers, horse riders and single-track users. Dogs are allowed on the trail, though a current official rule specific to this trail was not confirmed.
