Walker Falls is a 65-foot steep cascade on Walker Branch in the Big Ivy area of Pisgah National Forest, Buncombe County, North Carolina, visible from the side of Forest Road 74. The road through Big Ivy has been closed since the fall of 2025.
The falls
The World Waterfall Database, working from lidar data, measures the single steep drop at about 65 feet; older surveys gave 45 feet, the figure Wikipedia still gives. The falls are a tiered cascade that can be seen from the road.
Getting there
A Big Ivy closure map from September 2025 shows F.R. 74 and the Walker Creek Trail closed through October 1, 2026, and an April 2026 county document marks F.R. 74 beyond the parking area as closed to motor vehicles. Check with the Pisgah National Forest before going.
In normal times, the route starts at the junction of NC 197 and Dillingham Road in Barnardsville: 2.2 miles to a fork, the left fork for 2.7 miles until the pavement ends and the road becomes gravel F.R. 74, then 2.8 miles to a small sliding waterfall and 1.3 miles more to Walker Falls. Dillingham Road is a dead end, so the way out is the way in. The Douglas Falls parking lot is 4.7 miles farther up F.R. 74.

The road is closed until at least October 1, 2026; seasonal flow isn't documented.
