Au Train Falls is a slide waterfall on the Au Train River in Alger County, Michigan, with a current listed height of 25 feet.
The falls
The World Waterfall Database's current Michigan listing puts the height at 25 feet, well above the 10 feet in older records; the entry is marked unconfirmed. Locally the falls form two parts below the site of a small hydroelectric dam: an upper drop of about 40 feet and a lower drop of about 10 feet. An older Michigan geological guide instead measured a roughly 100-foot cascade in two main breaks, evidently covering a longer stretch of river.
Getting there
Access runs from M-94 to Au Train Forest Lake Road and Power Dam Road. An improved footpath reaches the upper fall in under 15 minutes; the lower fall is reached beyond a gate on a gravel road. Official parking, fees, and closure information for the falls are not documented.
When to go
Spring generally brings the strongest flow, while dry periods can reduce the falls to a trickle.
