At 37 feet it is taller than the typical Arkansas waterfall of about 34 feet, ranking 49th of 110 with a recorded height. By form it is a plunge, where the water drops vertically and loses contact with the rock face.
The Boston Mountains are the highest and most rugged part of the Ozarks, deeply dissected sandstone plateaus covered in oak-hickory forest with shortleaf pine. Clear creeks cut narrow hollows with numerous bluff-line waterfalls, at their best in spring.
