The falls
The single 42-foot drop is classified as a veiling horsetail, where the water clings to the rock face rather than falling clear of it. The trail follows Jones Run through forest and crosses the stream once on the way to the falls.
Getting there
The hike starts at the Jones Run parking area on Skyline Drive at mile 84.1, crosses the Appalachian Trail, and follows the blue-blazed Jones Run Trail to the falls and back the same way. It is a moderate 3.2-mile round trip, about two hours and thirty minutes, with 1,045 feet of elevation gain. The 2026 seven-day entrance fee is $30 per vehicle, $25 per motorcycle, or $15 per pedestrian or bicyclist; the park accepts America the Beautiful passes and is cashless. No separate permit or reservation is required.

Shenandoah National Park is always open, though Skyline Drive can close temporarily during severe weather.

Pets are required to be on a leash no longer than 6 feet. The National Park Service warns that climbing on rocks near waterfalls can be deadly, and that cell phone and GPS service are unreliable in the park.
