Mohican Falls is a 39-foot waterfall on Ganoga Glen Branch in Ricketts Glen State Park, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, one of several tiered falls along the Falls Trail System's Ganoga Glen.
The falls
The falls drop in two tiers — 19 feet, then a broader lower tier — for a total of 39 feet, a figure that matches the height shown on the park's own map. Ganoga Glen Branch is fed by a lake and flows year-round.
Getting there
Ricketts Glen State Park is managed by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. From the Lake Rose Trailhead, the Ganoga Glen Trail descends about 0.7 mile to reach the falls, part of a difficult trail system that also forms a 7.2-mile full loop or a shorter 3.2-mile upper loop. Pennsylvania state parks charge no entrance fee, and Ricketts Glen is open from sunrise to sunset.
When to go
The Falls Trail System closes each winter except to hikers equipped with crampons, ice axes and rope, who must sign in and out; Ganoga Glen Branch itself runs year-round.
On site
The trail down to the falls crosses wet, steep terrain, a documented hazard. Swimming is allowed only at the designated beach on Lake Jean, not in the waterfall pools.
History and name
Robert Bruce Ricketts named the park's falls, though the reason for calling this one Mohican is not recorded.
