Ecola Falls is a 59-foot curtain waterfall on Multnomah Creek in the Columbia River Gorge, Multnomah County, Oregon, 1.6 miles up the Larch Mountain Trail from Multnomah Falls Lodge.
The falls
Multnomah Creek drops here as a single vertical curtain fed by springs. A survey now puts the total height at 59 feet.
Getting there
The route follows Trail 441 from Multnomah Falls Lodge, climbing steep paved switchbacks before continuing through forest to the falls, 1.6 miles up the trail. From May 22 to September 7, 2026, a vehicle reservation was required at the Exit 31 area between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., with pedestrians, cyclists and transit riders exempt; the booking itself cost $2.
When to go
The trail sees year-round use, subject to snow.
On site
The trail only looks down into the pool from above; the steep, crumbly descent to the base is discouraged. Restrooms at Multnomah Falls Lodge are closed for renovation through November 2026.
History and name
The site has also been called Hidden Falls, and together with neighboring Wiesendanger Falls it was historically grouped as Double Falls. Ecola is the Chinook Jargon word for whale.
