Dutchman Falls is a 35-foot waterfall on Multnomah Creek, about 1.2 miles up the Larch Mountain Trail from Multnomah Falls Lodge in Multnomah County, Oregon.
The falls
The unofficial name covers a group of three visible falls within about 300 feet of each other, roughly 10, 15, and 8 feet high. The current record counts four drops for a total of 35 feet, with the tallest at 15 feet. Multnomah Creek here is fed by springs and flows year-round.
Getting there
The falls sit on the Larch Mountain Trail, U.S. Forest Service Trail 441, about 1.2 miles from Multnomah Falls Lodge. For 2026, reaching the trailhead by private vehicle through Interstate 84 Exit 31 requires a timed-use permit from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., May 22 through September 7; permits are released 14 and 2 days ahead and do not guarantee parking. Visitors arriving by transit or bicycle need no permit, and a limited number of free same-day pickup passes may be available. Restrooms at Multnomah Falls Lodge are under renovation through November 2026, with portable toilets provided.
When to go
Flow is year-round. The 2026 vehicle-permit season runs May 22 to September 7, and parking is often full on busy weekends.
History and name
The name is unofficial and refers to nearby Dutchman's Tunnel; it first appeared in Gregory Plumb's Waterfall Lover's Guide series.
