Sheldon Reynolds Falls is the tallest of five waterfalls recorded on Kitchen Creek, plunging about 32 feet in Ricketts Glen State Park, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.
The falls
Below the confluence of the Glen Leigh and Ganoga Glen branches, the creek funnels through a notch, plunges, and spreads into a veil where it strikes protruding bedrock. An in-person survey puts the drop at 32 feet; other measurements have put it at 36 feet. Lake and marsh drainage keeps the flow going year-round.
Getting there
Ricketts Glen State Park, run by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, is open sunrise to sunset with no entrance fee. From the Route 118 trailhead, the approach runs about 1.4 miles upstream. The park's trail system includes a 7.2-mile full loop and a 3.2-mile upper loop.
When to go
Flow is usually lowest from late July through September. Winter users need crampons, ice axes and rope, and must sign in and out.
On site
The falls land in a large pool within steep, wet gorge terrain. Pets must be kept under control and attended. Swimming here is not documented. In May 2026, a rescue on the Falls Trail followed a reported 60-foot fall; the specific waterfall was not identified.
History and name
The falls are named for lawyer and historian Sheldon Reynolds, brother of Elizabeth Reynolds Ricketts.
