Silverthread Falls is a 145-foot tiered waterfall in Pike County, Pennsylvania, beside the Dingmans Creek Trail in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. It sits on the same short boardwalk as Dingmans Falls, but the road, visitor center and trail have been closed for bridge and trail reconstruction since May 2025.
The falls
Silverthread descends as three tiered horsetails, often visited alongside neighboring Dingmans Falls. Lidar-based terrain models put the total drop at about 145 feet, with the upper and tallest step falling about 80 feet on its own. Earlier surveys listed 80 feet, the height of that upper step. The water drops steeply through a narrow channel cut along prominent rock-joint faces and carries much less volume than Dingmans Falls.
Getting there
The Park Service closed the Dingmans Falls access road, visitor center and Dingmans Creek Trail on May 12, 2025 for bridge replacement and trail reconstruction, and all traffic is prohibited, including on foot and by bicycle. The park's March 2026 compendium projected the work to run into early summer 2026; check the Dingmans Creek Trail page before going.
In normal operation the trail runs 0.4 mile one way from the visitor center to Dingmans Falls, and Silverthread is passed along the way. The first 0.3 mile is a boardwalk; the last 0.1 mile climbs steep wooden stairs. Buses and RVs may not park at the trailhead on weekends and federal holidays.
When to go
In winter the access road closes to vehicles but, outside the construction closure, stays open to pedestrians.
On site
The boardwalk is stroller and wheelchair accessible, with benches and handrails, and has overlooks along the way. Pets are not allowed except service dogs. Swimming and wading are prohibited in the pool at the base of Silverthread, and the falls are closed to climbing, rappelling, diving and jumping, including ice climbing. Picnicking on the trail and observation platforms isn't allowed.
